Augmented Truth of the Day: HoloLens Portal
While virtual reality (VR) has become the hot new topic lately, augmented reality (AR) has been spilled away in the background, and that there are individuals who see AR as the much better long-term alternative in terms of the variety of things that you could do with it. Where all perspective of the outside world shuts out and shows you everything the developer wants you to see, the real world is basically overlaid by AR and interacts with it. The ceilings, walls, and flooring on earth are surfaces that the AR system utilizes, and objects become triggers or obstacles. Some of the potential uses for AR consist of live remote instruction on something such as fixing a plumbing issue, complete with such and emphasized overlays even to reveal notes, or to point out different parts and programs. Live text translation, demonstrations, and of course matches, are one of the many things people imagine employing these for.
Well, at least one individual was tinkering with a hobby project for the Microsoft HoloLens by placing Portal items and mechanics right into your living space (or hallway, or road, or…). It’s not really a game at this point, but he’s the portal mechanics functioning, and added models for a turret and companion cube, in addition to the portal . The company cube falls through the portals as you would anticipate, and responds to items — stairs, furniture, and the surroundings.
Part of me wonders why it’s taking so long to allow them to adapt Pokemon for AR — Pokemon Move was already this major hit, and utilizes AR tech to put the pokemon in the “real world” via your cellphone’s camera, why not take that next step and app it all right into HoloLens? I mean, honestly, this exact same guy who produced the Portal thing here has actually done Pokemon proof of theory (Youtube link) stuff before, but I’m talking an actual full — and officially sanctioned — match.

On a more practical note (do not get me wrong, I am an avid gamer, and also that trendy):
AR could be used for all sorts of normal items, such as:
Facial recognition + AR = never forget a title
Get places easily by following arrows onto the ground
See ratings and testimonials for businesses just by taking a look at the sign or storefront
Send/receive emails and text messages/calls without searching for a device
Along with many different items. If you can do all that and catch a Charmander it wanders around the street corner the more amazing.
